Vitiligo is a disease of the skin characterized by white spots that appear and spread on the skin.
It affects 0.5.. In some cases, we can also see a concentration of melanin (darker area) around the affected area.
This defect pigmentosa usually occurs on the face, extremities, joints and areas of friction (Koebner phenomenon).
It is essentially based on the observation of characteristic lesions on the skin. There are two main forms. The segmental form is slightly more common in children, especially in the face, with more rapid progression.
In late stages, depigmentation of hair or hair can be seen.
This disease does not cause physical pain but can cause hassles for aesthetic or social life.
It may be useful to perform additional laboratory tests, vitiligo may be associated with autoimmune diseases including thyroid problems (including Hashimoto's thyroiditis). It is found especially in the autoimmune polyendocrinopathy type II association: adrenal insufficiency chronic autoimmune cortical retraction, thyroid disease, vitiligo, type I diabetes, connective (including rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus)
Available treatments are many, but all imperfect success rate with low and sometimes most significant side effects.
It includes in all cases protect against sunburn, yet the latter having a beneficial effect on the disease and depigmented plaques in people with dark skin, which seem to retain resistance to sunburn.
If the plates are of moderate size, they can be artificially masked by makeup. Some self-tanning specially designed for vitiligo are simple, fast and effective way to hide the depigmented areas.
Vitiligo can be triggered by stress. Thus considered as a somatic reaction to a psychological process, psychotherapy or psychoanalysis is widely recommended [ref.. Vitiligo should be clinically stable for at least a year to consider this type of treatment (otherwise there is high risk of recurrence).
The transplant can be done in several ways.
