Seborrheic dermatitis

Scabies

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin inflammatory dermatosis (observed in 3% to 5% of the population) in the form of red patches covered with greasy scale and yellow, more or less pruritic, predominantly in areas rich in sebaceous glands , seborrheic areas.

The topography of the lesions is highly suggestive. Significant itching may occur, but also be totally absent.

It occurs both in adults and infants (under 3 months), with whom she is distinguished by the classics ".

The pathology of inflammatory origin, multifactorial is not contagious and can develop in spurts most often triggered by stress or pollution and lack of sun.

Following the scraping of skin lesions can occur and, incidentally, become inflamed and bleed. Areas affected may react significantly to cosmetics, but in all cases heal without forming scars.

The pathogenesis of seborrheic dermatitis is not fully understood.

It is estimated that about half of all humans have a genetic predisposition to this pathology. However, this does not imply that they actually develop the disease.

The state of the central nervous system and immune system seems to be important. seborrheic dermatitis is more common in people with Parkinson's disease and in patients with AIDS, for what they are up to 80% affected.

The causes: stress and anxiety.

Sweating, clothes preventing the skin from breathing or occlusion of the skin, that is to say by the use of inappropriate care cream as too fat, promote the onset of symptoms.

It is thought that skin irritations are maintained by a somewhat exaggerated proliferation of a yeast Malassezia furfur (syn. pityrosporon oval). This host (actually harmless) of human skin multiplies following conditions mentioned above and causes disease.

Antimycotic treatment with the anti-inflammatory effect is generally effective in treating the thrust. However no treatment really works.

Creams containing cortisone produces dramatic effects in the short term but cause an addictive effect after some time. It has been noticed in many people suffering from seborrheic dermatitis and worsening of dermatitis extension to larger areas of the face in case of prolonged use of cortisone cream. They are used sparingly and should be included in a very strict treatment.
