Ichthyosis (Greek = ichthyos fish) is the name of a family of congenital diseases of the skin.

The ichthyosis is a congenital cutaneous dystrophy which corresponds to a particular state of the skin, dry and covered with fine scales with free edges arranged like fish scales. Greater or lesser extent, it meets the face, folds, palms and soles. Desquamation is continuous. People who are affected have a greatly reduced sweating.

In more scientific terms, it is a metabolic abnormality of the stratum corneum or hyperkeratosis (also called hyperkeratinization). Hyperkeratosis is the abnormal thickening of the stratum corneum. The skin is dry and rough, dead skin come off almost continuellement.Cette chromosomal disorder is caused by a microdeletion at the locus p22.3 of chromosome X.

There are three main types of ichthyosis.

The treatment of ichthyosis often takes the form of topical creams and oils, hoping to hydrate the skin. It was also used retinoids in some cases.

The étrétine systemically is useful in severe forms. It is recommended to consult a dermatologist who can direct you towards the best choice of lotions, oils, etc..
